Hello second grade families!  

We have several events happening these last two weeks! Please see the dates and times listed below in upcoming school events!

 

Math: We will review math skills this week that we need additional practice on.

Language Arts: We will continue Unit 10. This unit will focus on learning how matter changes and the different states of matter. The assessment will be at the end of the week. Our phonics skill this week will focus on suffixes -ful and -less.

Spelling: This week’s spelling words are: careful, useful, helpful, colorful, spoonful, painless, fearless, spotless, speechless, and priceless. Please help your student study these words every night. The test will be at the end of the week.

Homework: Please have your student read for at least 20 minutes every night.

Language Arts: We will continue Unit 10. This unit will focus on learning how matter changes and the different states of matter. The assessment will be at the end of the week. Our phonics skill this week will focus on prefixes un-, re-, and dis-.

Spelling: This week’s spelling words are: unsafe, unlock, unhappy, unpack, reheat, reuse, reread, dislike, disagree, and distrust. Please help your student study these words every night. The test will be at the end of the week.

Homework: Please have your student read for at least 20 minutes every night. 

Science: We have finished up our animal research! We will share our research with the class, so we can learn about all the animals we researched!

Science: We are doing great on our animal research! We will continue working on our unit on Animal research. We will be working on this unit for 3-4 weeks, as we will work on this as a group.  We will research an animal and learn where they live, what kind of habitat they live in. What they eat, what species they are, and several other facts and 3 interesting facts about our animal. Ask your student what animal they picked!!

NO School Friday, May 9th!!

Math: We will finish Unit 9 about Equal Shares and Whole Number Operations. We will have the unit assessment on Thursday this week. We learned about creating and naming equal parts, equal shares, pattern block fractions, fractional units of length, review place value, expand and trade subtraction. We also learned about equivalent money amounts, estimating costs, connecting doubles facts, even numbers and equal groups, multiples of 10 and 5.

Homework: Your student will have homework to complete and return to school May 12. 

Language Arts: We will finish Unit 9. This unit will focus on learning how the goods we make, buy, and sell connect us. The assessment will be at the end of the week. Our phonics skill this week will focus on silent letters.

Spelling: This week’s spelling words are: sign, know, write, thumb, comb, gnat, know, knife, wrong, and climb. Please help your student study these words every night. The test will be at the end of the week.

Homework: Please have your student read for at least 20 minutes every night. 

Science: We are doing great on our animal research! We will continue working on our unit on Animal research. We have not yet received very many donations for the 2nd Grade May Madness Basket. We need camping/fishing items for our basket! Please send these items to school no later than Wednesday, April 30th! We appreciate your support with the fundraiser!

We learned about regular and irregular polygons. We will make equal groups and arrays and write number stories about them.

Homework: Your student will have homework to complete and return to school on April 14. 

Language Arts: We will continue Unit 8. In this unit we will learn how wind and water shape the land. We will look at how we react to changes in nature, what causes earth changes, and how communities prepare for dangerous weather.  The assessment will be at the end of the week. Hello second grade families! Winter weather is here, please remember to send winter gear with your student every day for recess.

Math: We needed to take longer than we had thought to finish Unit 6. This unit focused on representing data, comparison number stories, interpreting number stories, animal number stories, two-step number stories, and recording addition strategies. We needed to review more with the students, to be ready for the assessment. So, we will take the unit assessment mid-week this week.

Homework: Your student will have math homework to complete and return to school February 18. 

Language Arts: We will continue Unit 6, we will learn about Tales that Teach Us and the lessons the tale teaches. The assessment will be at the end of the week. Our phonics skill this week will focus on vowel teams: oo and u.
