Week of Sept. 16

Happy 3rd week of school!

Here is a snapshot of our week ahead:

Math:

This week in math we are going to continue to review concepts in order to get our whole class on the same page before we begin our math curriculum. We will be focusing coins and their values, telling time to the nearest quarter hour, and addition & subtraction strategies.

We will have math homework each night.

Language Arts:

In Language Arts this week, we are going to do some more work with reading nonfiction, or informative texts. We are going to use what we’ve learned so far to help us as we read about animal adaptations. We will continue to work on responding to writing prompts after reading some articles this week.

We are on week 2 in spelling. Students will be sent home with a spelling list each Monday. I will post the spelling list to our web page as well. We will take our spelling test on Friday. Students will have some time at school to practice words, but they are encouraged to practice a few words each night at home as well in order to learn them all!

Science:

We will continue to learn more about force and motion this week. Students will be learning about what it takes for an object to move and how objects can move differently. I am hoping we are able to wrap up our first lesson so students can take a quiz on it a little later this week!

Social Studies:

We are continuing to learn about communities in our first Social Studies chapter. We’ll also start to learn about how to read a map and how to use directions like North, South, East and West.

Upcoming School Events:

We have Fitness every Monday and Wednesday. Students are expected to wear gym shoes on these days in order to participate.

Each afternoon we have snack. Students are encouraged to bring a healthy snack from home if they would like (no chips, cookies, juice, etc.)

Friday, Sept. 20 - Grandparent Breakfast RSVP forms due

Language Arts:

In Language Arts this week, we are going to do some more work with reading nonfiction, or informative texts. We are practicing how to be active listeners and how to participate in a discussion.
