Hello and welcome to Third Grade!

This is my tenth year with our wonderful group of educators. Over the years, I have worked with students from pre-K up to 3rd grade. I earned my BA from the University of MN, and am nearly finished with graduate work at Hamline University. I've learned so much while in college classrooms, but I've gained as much, if not more, from working in a community filled with knowledgeable, passionate, hard-working people who are so committed to teaching our students.

When I'm not working, I love doing projects around my house and reading. My favorite thing to do is spending time with my family and friends. My husband and two daughters and I  like going to movies and cooking together. We like experimenting to see what we can get to grow in our garden and we love to relax at our cabin on Lake Superior. Wherever we spend our time, we always have our dogs, Scarlet and Chewie, along for the ride.

I'm so excited to see where this year takes us! I value every chance to teach and to learn from everyone in the community of room 245.

Picture Day Tomorrow!!

Hello Families-
We are off to a wonderful start in room 245! I'm having so much fun getting to know all our students and they are working so hard and being so kind with one another.
Tomorrow is Picture Day so students are allowed to come in free dress. You are able to either send money in with the picture forms we sent home last week or you can order them online. I'm looking forward to seeing some fun outfits and some great smiles tomorrow!

MCA Info

Hello Families-
We will be taking our Reading MCAs during the week of April 10th.

Per state requirements, students are unable to have access to their cell phones or wearable technology at any time during MCA or MTAS testing or during breaks from MCA or MTAS testing. In the event that a student has access to a cell phone or wearable technology during testing, the student’s test is required to be invalidated, even if the student did not use the device. Wearable technology includes but is not limited to smart watches and fitness trackers.

On dates when your student is scheduled to take MCA or MTAS assessments, your student will check in their phone and/or device with me on the morning of testing. I will collect the phone/device, put it in a labeled Ziploc bag and keep it in a locked cupboard until the end of testing for the day, at which time I will return the phone/device to your student.

Please let me know if you have questions!

Yearbooks

Hello-

The last day for ordering yearbooks is March 31st. Please see the flyer below for information!

Hello Families!

I hope everyone had a restful and relaxing Thanksgiving weekend. This week we are going to be wrapping up our first trimester. I can’t believe how fast the year is going by! In Language Arts we will be working on a creative story based on the animal research paragraphs we wrote a couple of weeks ago. We will also be working on how to compare and contrast 2 nonfiction articles. In Math we will be reviewing rounding and estimating, adding and subtracting multi-digit numbers with regrouping and strategies to solve multiplication story problems. We will be taking our unit 3 math assessment as well. We will be wrapping up our 3rd chapter in Social Studies too! It will be a busy week but hopefully everyone is up to it!

Just a quick reminder that we will not have school this Friday as it is a grading day. Have a wonderful week!

Attached is an eLearning packet. This packet has already been sent home with your student. Please keep it in a safe place. It will be used if your student needs to learn from home in case of school closures due to weather. Thank you and let me know if you have any questions!

Book Fair Tomorrow

Hello Families-
Just a reminder that our class will be going to the book fair tomorrow. If you want to send money with your student, we will help them pick out and purchase a book. All students will be going regardless of whether they plan to buy a book or not.
Have a great day!

Week of Oct. 31

Hello Families!

Just a reminder that Monday Oct. 31 will be a free dress day to celebrate our Fall Celebration day. Students may come to school dressed up as a favorite character, animal, etc. as long as it is appropriate for school and not scary or violent (also nothing with toy weapons). I’m excited to see what everyone does.

This week in Language Arts we will be learning about nonfiction text features and practicing how to use them, where to find them, and why they are useful. We will also be reading a story and learning some vocabulary words from it.

In Math we are going to work some more with In/Out Boxes as well as practicing regrouping and borrowing with multidigit addition and subtraction. We will also review place value and rounding numbers.

In Social Studies we are learning about natural resources and how we use them. We will also continue to review the continents and oceans on Earth. Students are having lots of fun with two songs we have been listening to in order to help us learn the 7 continents and 5 oceans.

Please reach out if you have questions or concerns. Thanks and have a great week!
