Book Fair May 28 at 8am

Our classroom's scheduled time for the Book Fair is tomorrow, May 28, at 8am. If you would like your First Grader to shop, please send money to school in a ziploc bag or an envelope and I will return any change.
The Book Fair will be open during the May Madness event Thursday after school if you would prefer to shop at that time.

Here is a look at the week:

Language Arts: This week we will continue unit 10 in our Benchmark curriculum. We will explore sound, light, and heat.  

We will work on reading and spelling Long “E” words.

Spelling: This week’s spelling words are: easy, sunny, starry, speedy, sleepy, silly, money, mommy, lucky, &, city.

Math: This week we will be reviewing skills we have learned this year.

Field Day Tomorrow: May 27

Grade 1 will have their Field Day tomorrow, May 27, from 8:15-9:30am. Your First Grader will rotate through a variety of outdoor activities:

1. Scooters

2. Hurdles

3. Parachute

4. Gaga Ball

5. Long Jump

6. 100 Meter Dash

7. Drip, Drip, Drop

8. Sponge Relay Race

9. Vertical Jump

10. Playground

Please have your First Grader wear comfortable shoes and clothing (no swimming suits) and bring a bottle of water or a water bottle. In the case of inclement weather, we will notify you and Field Day will be rescheduled to Wednesday, May 28.

Language Arts: This week we will continue unit 10 in our Benchmark curriculum. We will explore sound, light, and heat.

Hello First Grade Families!

Here is a look at the week:

Language Arts: This week we will begin Unit Nine in our Benchmark Curriculum. Unit Nine primarily focuses on the concept of "We Use Goods and Services". Students will explore the idea of trading, and review what a community is. Unit Nine builds upon the foundations established in previous units, focusing on strengthening students' decoding skills, spelling abilities, and overall reading comprehension.

We will work on reading and spelling “ou & ow” words.

Spelling: This week’s spelling words are: Clouds, shout, about, clown, frown, how, now, brow, plow, & meow.

Spelling and reading comprehension assessments will be given Friday.  

Math: This week we will continue Unit Nine in Math using the Everyday Math Curriculum.  We will focus on foundational math skills like counting, number recognition, basic addition and subtraction facts, place value, and geometry. Students learn to add and subtract numbers up to 30, solve simple word problems, and develop an understanding of shapes and fractions. We will also review measurement, time, and money.

Nightly Homework: spelling words, Homework Packet, practice Sight Words, and read for fifteen to twenty minutes at least each night.

Please check your First Grader’s Take Home Binder for the weekly Homework Packet that will be sent home on Monday to be worked on through the week, and returned to school on Friday.

Reminders:

  • Send a healthy snack with your student daily.
  • Make sure your child has shoes for fitness. We go to fitness on Wednesdays and Thursdays.

Students learn to add and subtract numbers up to 30, solve simple word problems, and develop an understanding of shapes and fractions. We will also review measurement, time, and money.

Nightly Homework: spelling words, Homework Packet, practice Sight Words, and read for fifteen minutes each night.

Hello First Grade Families!
 

Here is a look at the week:

My book I wrote and illustrated, Johnny Figures It Out, had been published! It is the story of a little rescue dog named Johnny. Johnny is deaf. He learns to navigate life with the help of his family's golden retriever, and he learns sign language in his new forever home! Johnny learns that life can be confusing, and sometimes scary, at first, but it helps to know that you are loved. Available on Amazon and BookBaby Bookshop. 

Language Arts:  We will continue Unit Eight: Observing the Sky in our Benchmark Curriculum. Unit Eight focuses on Earth Science; specifically exploring topics like climate, weather, natural hazards, attractions, and landforms.

Spelling: This week’s spelling words are: organ, order, storm, story, coarse, bored, core, roar, chore, & store.

Spelling and reading comprehension assessments will be given Friday.  

Math: We will continue Unit Eight in our Everyday Math Curriculum. Unit Eight focuses on mental arithmetic, money concepts, and fractions, including practicing adding and subtracting larger numbers, working with fact families, and exploring the concepts of halves and fourths.

Science: This week we will continue an economic unit focusing on basic concepts like identifying wants vs needs, understanding the roles of producers and consumers in a community, recognizing how people earn money through jobs, and making simple choices about spending and saving to meet their needs and wants. 

Nightly Homework: spelling words, Homework Packet, practice Sight Words, and read for fifteen minutes each night.

Spelling and reading comprehension assessments will be given Friday.  

Math: This week we will continue Unit Seven in Math. We will focus on geometry and attributes of shapes, where students learn to identify, classify, and compare different shapes based on their characteristics like sides, corners, and vertices. We will also continue to practice addition and subtraction facts through related fact families.

Social Studies: This week we will continue an Economic Unit focusing on basic concepts like identifying wants vs needs, understanding the roles of producers and consumers in a community, recognizing how people earn money through jobs, and making simple choices about spending and saving to meet their needs and wants.

We will also continue to practice addition and subtraction facts through related fact families.

Spelling: This week’s spelling words are: window, home, grow, slow, only, owner, ocean, roads, goal, & hope. 

Spelling and reading comprehension assessments will be given Thursday.

Math: This week we will begin Unit Seven in Math. Unit 7 focuses primarily on "time" concepts, including telling time to the hour and half hour, understandings in the concept of "a.m." and "p.m.", and relating time to daily routines and activities, while using visual aids like clocks and timelines. We will also continue to practice addition and subtraction facts through related fact families.
