Bio

I'm a first-year substitute teacher. Throughout the year I will be helping out in classrooms and filling in where needed.  
 
When I'm not at school I'm at home hanging out with my wife and dog.  We're all eagerly looking forward to the arrival of our baby boy in October!

Week 16

Hello 4th grade families,
We are on the last week before holiday break and it will be a busy one!
 
Language Arts: We will be wrapping up and taking a quiz on the first week of Unit 3, which focuses on informational texts, specifically about governments.
 
Math: We will spend the week reviewing multiplication and then exploring multidigit multiplication.
 
Science: We will be exploring how weathering and erosion affect the earths features.
 
Social Studies: We will be continuing to learn about the US government and its different branches.
 
In addition, the fourth grade field trip is on Tuesday. We will be traveling to the Bell Museum and spending most of the day there. I think the kids will love it!
 
The tree parade will be on Thursday! Please feel free to donate any unwanted decorations that we can use for the parade!

Week 15

Hello 4th grade families,
See below for this week's schedule and important reminders:
 
Language Arts: We will start the week with a test over Unit 2 and then begin Unit 3, which focuses on the topic of government in action and understanding informational texts.
 
Math: We will wrap up Unit 2 and then take the Unit test, before beginning our unit on fractions and decimals.
 
Science: We will continue to learn about the features of the earth's surface and how they are formed. 
 
Social Studies: We will focus on the structure of the US government and how it all works together.
 
Important Reminders:
-The fourth grade field trip is December 17th. Permission slips and activity fees are due tomorrow.
-The 3rd and 4th grade dance is this week on Thursday. It is a free dress day for the students and there is no dress code for the dance.
 

Week 14

Hello 4th grade families,
 
See below for the schedule for this week!
 
Language Arts: We will spend the week wrapping up Unit 2: Characters' Actions and Reactions. This week will focus on comparing characters across different versions of stories.
 
Math: We will wrap up Unit 2, focusing on understanding Triangles, Quadrilaterals, and symmetry.
 
Social Studies: We will move on to Chapter 3 this week: Government in the United States
 
Science: We will start Topic 4 which concerns the Earth's features.
 
Reminders:
The 4th grade field trip is on December 17th. Permission slips are due on the 9th.
Please remember to have your kids bring winter gear! Its going to get cold out!

Week 12

Hello 4th grade families,
See below for the schedule this week. Keep in mind that the end of the trimester is coming up and the kids do not have school on Friday.
 
Language Arts- We continue working through Unit 2, which focuses on Fiction, understanding characters, and the similarities and differences between different types of storytelling.
 
Math- We will spend the week talking about factors, multiplies and prime and composite numbers.
 
Science- We will spend the first part of the week reviewing what we learned about different types of waves and wave information, then we will take a quiz on the subject at the end of the week
 
Social Studies- We will finish up Chapter 2, American History, focusing on the our history after the end of WW2.
 
Reminders:
No school on Friday, teacher grading day

Hello 4th grade families,
 
See below for this week's schedule:
 
Language Arts: We will be taking the unit 1 test at the start of the week and finish with an informative essay that the kids will work on.
 
Math: We will finish up the last few lessons of Unit 1, concerning geometry and data, and then take the Unit 1 test.
 
Science: We will continue to explore Waves and Energy
 
Social Studies: We will learn about US history after the end of the Civil War

Picture Retakes are on Thursday

Week 9

Hello 4th grade families,
 
See below for the schedule this week!
 
Language Arts: We are working through the final week of Unit 1: Observing Nature. We will read one more passage and spend the week doing close readings of it and prior passages. Early next week will be the Unit 1 Test!
 
Math: We are proceeding through Unit 1. This week we will cover subtraction, U.S. units of measure and the start of geometry.
 
Science: We will be beginning Topic 3: Waves and Information
 
Social Studies: We will continue through Chapter 2: History of the United States.
 
Reminders:
Monday Morning is the book fair. The kids will have a chance to purchase books or other items in the morning.
 
Tuesday night: Bingo for books from 5-6:30
 
Wednesday and Friday: Parent conferences. Please sign up for a time slot on the Pickatime website.

Week 8

Hello 4th grade families!
I hope everyone has had a great weekend! Please see below for this week's plans!
 
Language Arts: We will be working through the middle of Unit 1, which includes topics in grammar and figurative language as well as integrating information from multiple texts. We will wrap up the week with the 2nd quiz of Unit 1.
 
Math: We start the week with a quick quiz, then we will continue through Unit 1, which includes review of estimating, working through word problems, and multidigit addition.
 
Social Studies: We will continue working through Chapter 2, which teaches about the early time period of US history.
 
Science: We will wrap up Topic 2 Human uses of Energy on Monday, and then spend the week reviewing and preparing for the quiz at the end of the week.
 
Reminders:
Parent teacher conferences are October 30th and November 1st. Please remember to sign up for a time slot!
 
The book fair will be next Monday (October 28th)

Week 6

Hello 4th grade families,
Welcome to week 6! We have quite a few quizzes and tests this week so please encourage your child to focus and do well!
 
Language Arts: We will finish up our week 1 lessons on Observing Nature and will wrap up with a brief writing assignment and then a quiz. We will start the next set of lessons on Thursday.
 
Math: We will start the week by reviewing what we have talked about for the last 4 weeks and then the kids will be taking their beginning of the year test! 
 
Science: We will continue to learn about human uses of energy!
 
Social Studies: We will begin this week by taking a test on Chapter 1 (the US, its regions, and its environments) and then begin talk about Chapter 2: the history of the US.

Hello 4th grade families,
 
Hope your weekends are going well. See below for this week's plan:
 
Language Arts: We will be beginning the first unit of language arts this week. This will include reading nonfiction texts and discussing main ideas of texts and figurative language.
 
Math: We will be finishing up our 3rd grade review this week, wrapping up by discussing fractions, and interpreting information on tables and graphs. We will finish the week with a review before we take our first big test next week.
 
Science: We will be starting topic 2, which discusses the many different ways that humans use energy.
 
Social Studies: We will be reviewing what we learned in Chapter 1 so that we can take a test on it towards the end of the week.
 
Reminders:
Thursday (October 3rd) is picture day and free dress day!

Hello 4th grade families,
I hope your weekend is going well. Please see below for what we will be covering this week!
 
Language Arts: We will be engaging our critical thinking skills by talking about asking questions and making predictions when reading.
 
Math: We will continue to review division and multiplication early on this week and then work on word problems.
 
Science: We will be learning about electric current early on in the week and we may finish up the week with our first test.
 
Social Studies: We will continue to read through Chapter 1, which discusses what environment and climate are and how they affect us.

Week 3

Hello 4th grade families!
 
The children's first full week went great and I expect this week will be the same! See below for the schedule!
 
Language Arts: This week we will continue to review routines and expectations and talk about making connections with the books week read!
 
Math: We will be reviewing multiplication facts and some division facts this week.
 
Social Studies: We will start social studies this week  and will be learning about the early histories of the Americas.
 
Science: We will be continuing to learn about energy motion and physics

Week 2

Hello 4th grade families! Last week was wonderful start to the year and it seems like the students are all set to begin their fourth grade careers! See below for this week's plan!
 
Language Arts: We will be working on a short writing assignment early in the week and then spending a few days discussing why books are written.
 
Math: We will be reviewing multidigit addition and subtraction!
 
Science: We will be starting science this week with Chapter 1: Energy and Motion.
 
Reminders: 
-Uniforms will be required throughout the year, except on Spirit Days.
-If students bring their phones to school they are required to place them in a lockbox, which is locked in my cabinet until the end of the day.

Welcome to 4th grade!

Hello everyone,
The first day of school is tomorrow and it's very exciting!
 
Here are a few helpful hints for the first day of school:
 
Breakfast will be free and served in the cafeteria. Please remind your kids to grab it on their way to class. They will not need their pins!
 
Don't forget uniforms and school supplies! The classroom can feel cold sometimes, so make sure your child brings an Athlos sweatshirt.
 
Tennis shoes are required for fitness, no crocs or slides!
 
Fourth grade is exciting and busy! Make sure your child gets a lot of sleep!

Week of 6/3

Hello 4th grade families,
Here we are at the last week of school. See below for the schedule:
 
Language Arts: We will be wrapping up Unit 8 and working on Reader's Theater plays!
 
Math: We will be finishing up the last two lessons of Unit 8.
 
Science: We have started our engineering projects and will be working on a variety of different constructions next week.
 
We have finished Social studies this last week so we do not have any plans for that subject!
 
Reminders:
 
The school-wide talent show is Monday June 3rd
Last day of school is Thursday, June 6th

Hello 4th grade families,

Language Arts: We are wrapping up our Unit 8 lessons on natural disasters and informative texts. We will also work on our final writing assignment about our summer plans!
 
Math: We will continue working on Unit 8, focusing on using fractions in a variety of different ways
 
Social Studies: We will wrap up our social studies this year by learning about the west coast and presenting on a state from that region
 
Science: We are working through our lessons on engineering with the plan to engineer some experiments for our last week of school.
